This page explains how you can apply to extend your stay as an au pair in the United Kingdom. Before you read this information you should make sure you meet the eligibility requirements for the au pair scheme.
As an au pair you are entitled to stay in the United Kingdom for a maximum of two years. At the end of this two year period you are expected to return to your home country.
We will allow you to extend your stay in the United Kingdom if:
We call extending your stay further leave to remain. To apply for an extension of stay as an au pair you must use application form FLR(O). This application form and the accompanying guidance notes are available to download on the right side of this page. You should make sure you read the guidance notes fully before you make your application.
You will need to provide us with certain documents to support your application. Details of the documents we need are given on the application form. You should provide the original document unless there is a good reason why you cannot.
You need to make your application before your current permission to stay in the United Kingdom ends.
You will need to pay a fee to cover the cost of processing your applications. The fee you pay will depend on how you make your application. We offer a premium or postal service for applications. If you choose to use the premium service you will need to make your application in person at one of our public enquiry offices.
Premium service £595
Postal service £395
If you decide to make your application by post you should send you completed application form, the fee and supporting documents to:
UK Border Agency
Leave to Remain - FLR(O)
PO Box 495
Durham
DH99 1WR
The time it will take us to decide your application will depend on whether you apply using the premium or postal service.
For applications made by post, we aim to decide 70% of applications within 4 weeks (20 working days) and 90% within 14 weeks (70 working days).
For applications made using the premium service, we aim to decide 98% of applications within 24 hours.
If we refuse to extend your permission to stay in the United Kingdom you may have the right to appeal against our decision. Your refusal letter will provide you with details of any appeal rights that you have and what the process involves.
