If you are planning on visiting the UK for medical treatment you will need to satisfy several requirements. The current requirements for visiting the UK for medical treatment are:
you are able to meet the entry requirements for visiting the UK as a visitor;
if you are suffering from a communicable disease, there must be no danger to public health;
you must be able to show that your treatment is of finite duration as you will be visiting the UK for medical treatment;
you have made all the arrangements in order to have your treatment;
you have enough money to pay for your treatment and to support and accommodate yourself without working or help from public funds when visiting the UK for medical treatment; and
you plan to leave the United Kingdom at the end of your treatment.
You will be required to show various documents to show that you meet the various visiting the UK requirements. In your preparations in visiting the UK for medical treatment you should ensure that you have the following documents:
a letter from a doctor who is a consultant for the NHS or who is on the General Medical Council register, confirming that you have made all the arrangements for your treatment and how long the treatment will last
evidence that you have money available to you to pay for your treatment;
a letter from your employer confirming what job you do and how long you have been working there and explaining that you have taken annual leave for visiting the UK for medical treatment;
if you are self-employed, you will need to show documents from your business which show what you do and your company’s financial position;
evidence of any property you own in your home country;
if you are a student, a letter from your school confirming which course you are on, the start and finish dates and the dates of the holiday period when you will be visiting the UK medical treatment;
When visiting the UK for medical treatment it is important to show that you intend to return home. This criteria for visiting the UK can be satisfied by the following:
evidence of any firm travel plans you have made; and
evidence of you living overseas such as bank statements going back over a period of at least 3 months
You may be able to apply to extend your stay when visiting the UK for medical treatment as long as you can satisfy the visiting the UK criteria and that you apply to extend your stay before you visiting the UK for medical treatment visa expires.
