In this section you will find visa information on the many different options available to people wishing to come to the UK, from economic routes, such as working in the UK and hsmp, to UK visa information for people visiting the UK for short period of time.
If you are planning on visiting the UK as a visitor you will need to satisfy several requirements. The current requirements for visiting the UK as a visitor are:
you will be visiting the UK as a visitor for up to 6 months;
will will leave after visiting the UK;
you have enough money for accommodation and living expenses when visiting the UK as a visitor and that you will not have help from public funds or that you will be staying with and supported by friends or relatives when visiting the UK;
you do not intend to work as you are being granted entry for visiting the UK as a visitor. Please see our working in the UK section if will be working in the UK;
do not intend to study as you are being granted entry for visiting the UK as a visitor. Please see our studying in the UK section if you will be studying in the UK; and
you have the funds to pay for your onward or return journey, or that you have a confirmed return ticket so you can return home or to your next destination, after visiting the UK as a visitor.
If you are planning to do business when visiting the UK as a visitor you may be able to do so as long as you satisfy the following criteria:
you live and work overseas and you have no plans to relocate to the UK while visiting the UK as a visitor; and
you do not plan to work, produce goods or provide services in the UK when visiting the UK as a visitor. Please see our working in the UK section if you plan on working in the UK.
You will be required to show various documents to show that you meet the various visiting the UK criteria. In your preparations in visiting the UK as a visitor you should ensure that you have the following documents:
a letter from your employer confirming what job you do and how long you have been working there and explaining that you have taken annual leave for visiting the UK as a visitor;
if you are self-employed, you will need to show documents from your business which show what you do and your company’s financial position;
evidence of any property you own in your home country;
if you are a student, a letter from your school confirming which course you are on, the start and finish dates and the dates of the holiday period when you will be visiting the UK as a visitor;
When visiting the UK as a visitor it is important to show that you intend to return home. This criteria for visiting the UK can be satisfied by the following:
evidence of either a return or onward journey;
evidence of you living overseas such as bank statements going back over a period of at least 3 months; and
evidence of any savings you may have.
If you are visiting the UK as a visitor you can stay for up to 6 months only. If you check your passport you will be able to see if you were granted leave for visiting the UK for 3 months. If this is the case, you will be able to extend your stay for visiting the UK as a visitor for another 3 months. You are required to return home after 6 months when your visiting the UK visa expires.
